The building is a small addition to the Suggett House, an 1882 Italianate house which serves as the local historical society headquarters and museum. The addition is used as an archives and research library.

The setback from the street allows the library to have its own entry while also serving as the link between the existing and the new. An existing grove of trees serves as a screen in the center of a proposed garden courtyard. The frame, from a pre-engineered structures catalogue, often used for commercial and farm structures in the area, is revealed along the front facade with a row of round columns holding an oversized gutter as a cornice. The enclosure wall slides behind, except in the small reading room where it projects forward to produce a bay window looking onto the garden.

The remaining three walls are of brick veneer, again in accordance with the “dense side/soft side” development strategy. A skylight along the ridge of the shed roof washes the bookshelves with light. An existing shed was to have been reroofed to make it consistent with the library, thus forming a completion to the enclosure of the garden court.
