On axis with James Street, a proscenium-like portico marks the principal entry to the opera house and reveals the auditorium, foyers, and circulation. The exposed roof structure of the auditorium and the sailcloth awning in the portico recall the maritime context of the site.
Cardiff Opera House
The upper-level promenade links the auditorium with a bar to the south and a cafe/restaurant to the north. The bar occupies a tower at the cross-axis of the Oval Basin and provides a 270-degree vista to the sea and square.
